A piece for symphony orchestra, piano, and media (audio, image, and video),
with optional harp, Narrator, SATB Choir, and dual-language (English-Spanish) script.
Our Story
(Be)Longing is a stage piece for symphonic orchestra, piano, and audio-video media* to guide the audience through LGBTQ history in the US from World War II through the US Supreme Court 2015 decision on Obergefell v. Hodges, establishing marriage equality. There are also optional parts for harp, SATB choir, and projected English and Spanish co-translations of narrations. The recorded narration may be done using an in-person, local guest.
(Be)Longing conveys stories of pride and patriotism, resilience and rebellion, invisibility and identity, and loneliness and love. Historical information moves through music, images, words via historical audio recordings, choral lyrics (opt),. and pre-recorded dialogue between two ficticous members of your audience:. CHARACTER embodies the hearts and minds of the audience members—their internal questions, curiosities, and dilemmas around LGBTQ individual stories and the collective history of LGBTQ Americans. This happens In conversatoin with the GUIDE who assists CHARACTER through this historical exploration of the universal human need to belong..
